Payoff systems supply material from a spool or coil into a manufacturing process, inspection operation, or simply to a take-up unit for respooling. They tend to be designed specifically for each application and need to feed the material smoothly and with good tension control. Some products that Showmark has designed payoffs for include fiber optic wire, magnet wire, fishing line, plastic tubing, and even wax filaments. We use a variety of technologies to provide the best solution for each requirement. Systems can be purely mechanical with open-loop tension control using magnetic brakes or friction devices, or they can be motor assisted with active closed-loop tension control using solid state tension transducers or dancer systems for tension feedback.
